It is theorized that schizophrenia arises from an inability to handle the demands of reality.

When caring for a schizophrenic patient who is on multiple medications for auditory hallucinations, frequently the patient struggles to accurately interpret environmental cues and amplifies stimuli, leading to more intense hallucinations.
Key nursing interventions include:
Decrease agitation
Do not argue with patient
Reassure patient safety
Limit environment stimuli
It is important to keep a positive atmosphere while maintaining safety for patient and those caring for them.
