Developing Cultural Competence: Critical To Nursing Science

When we think about science, we think about big books and lots of data. But because there are so many facets to science, it is important to be able to define your particular aspect.

Nursing Science focuses on research and experience, using these foundations to construct a knowledge system that is evidence-based and practiced. Given the diversity of people served, it is necessary that the discipline becomes intentional on the development and execution of cultural competence, both personally and in others.

Without cultural competence, it is impossible to apply evidenced-based practice that bridges gaps in inequities.
